HOA: Extra Material on Mexican Independence

This short PowerPoint summarizes the events leading to Mexico's independence: Click here.

As you read documents from Morelos and Iturbide, ask yourself the following questions:
  • What is the role of the Catholic Church?
  • What will the "new" government of Mexico look like?
  • How would you characterize the new nation's attitude toward foreigners?
  • Are there any measures in either of the documents that could be considered a direct reaction to problems that had led to the independence movement?
Friday's quiz will require you address both causes of independence movements in Latin America and the degree to which the successful independence movements actually addressed those causes.
